Commentary to Videopresentation

Boliarov is a village located in the eastern part of the Košická Kotlina basin. The first written record of the village comes from 1289, when it was still called Balar. The village was founded in the area of an original Slavic settlement. A mill used to stand here in the 14th century. The traditional agricultural way of life is still important. One of the most beautiful buildings in the village is the Baroque Roman Catholic Kostol Najsvätejšej Trojice church. It was built in the second half of the 18th century. Also Protestants, belonging to the Rankovce Evangelic Church, have their temple in Boliarov. The 1934 wooden bell tower with a stone ground floor also contributes to the unique atmosphere of the village. In the beginning of the 20th century, a sawmill and a millhouse were built in the village. Today, they stand here as a reminder of the traditional way of life of the forefathers in this village. The present population is over 816 inhabitants. The village covers an area of 1,000 ha. The municipality runs a primary school and a nursery school. Cultural events are organized mostly in the community centre, which has served this purpose since the second half of the 20th century. Residents can also enjoy many sports opportunities. The businesses in this area focus mostly on agriculture.
